Chicago's Wicker Park will receive a fresh green coat this summer as it plays host to the Green Music Fest, Saturday June 20th through Sunday, June 21st on Damen Ave. between North and Schiller. This innovative green event will reflect the hip and environmentally-conscious Wicker Park-Bucktown community by fusing original live music with green vendors, services and local retail, art, craft and food vendors.
The Green Music Festival mission is to connect eco-conscious Chicagoans with environmentally-sustainable companies, products, ideas and services, and inspire change in the community and lifestyles of its members.
Since year one, GMF has taken steps to reduce its environmental impact in areas like waste, water consumption and energy use. Supported by the Chicago Center for Green Technology and sponsored by the WPB SSA (Special Service Area for the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods), GMF has further strengthened its commitment to eco-conscious production by featuring: a comprehensive waste diversion program – including staffed Eco-Stations positioned throughout the festival to guide consumers in the proper disposal of their compostable and recyclable items, biodiesel generators, free bike parking area, and much more.
Produced by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce with support from the WPB SSA and the City of Chicago's Center for Green Technology, the Green Village is where thousands of community members and businesses that care for the environment unite at GMF to discover new ways to go green. Here, green vendors will preview, demonstrate and/or sell everything from solar-powered techie devices to fresh organic food to unique products made from recycled materials. Food vendors are required to use compostable food service disposable items such as plates, containers, napkins, utensils, bags, etc. Items such plastic bottles, Styrofoam containers and 'virgin' paper items are prohibited.
The 2015 live music line up at Green Music Fest will be programmed by local live music venue Subterranean, which has a well-respected reputation in Chicago for booking top-notch, cutting edge talent.
The 2014 lineup will be posted as soon as it is available. In the meantime, click here to take a look at the bands who performed LAST YEAR at Green Music Fest.
Admission to the Green Music Fest is $5 suggested donation. Hours of operation both days are noon to 10 pm.
