Chicago's Wicker Park will receive a fresh green coat this summer as it plays host to Green Music Fest, Saturday June 20th through Sunday, June 21st on Damen Ave. between North and Schiller. Admission is $5 suggested donation, and hours of operation are from noon to 10pm both days.
The innovative green event reflects the hip and environmentally-conscious Wicker Park-Bucktown community by fusing original live music with green vendors, local retail, arts, crafts, and food vendors.
Since year one, GMF has taken steps to reduce its environmental impact in areas like waste, water consumption and energy use. Produced by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce with support from the WPB SSA and the City of Chicago's Center for Green Technology, the Green Village is where thousands of community members and businesses that care for the environment discover new ways to go green. Green vendors preview and sell everything from solar-powered techie devices to fresh organic food to unique products made from recycled materials.
GMF has further strengthened its commitment to eco-conscious production by featuring a comprehensive waste diversion program including staffed Eco-Stations positioned throughout the festival to guide consumers in the proper disposal of their compostable and recyclable items, biodiesel generators, free bike parking area, and much more. Food vendors are even required to use compostable food service disposable items, and 'virgin' paper items are prohibited.
The 2015 live music line up at Green Music Fest is programmed by local live music venue Subterranean, which has a well-respected reputation in Chicago for booking top-notch talent. See last year's lineup here and check back soon to take a look at the 2016 band line-up.
